Stair Lift Cost
How much is a stair chair lift?
Prices can vary depending on the manufacturer of the lift chair and the available options with the chair. Typically a new straight stairlift will run between $3,000 and $5,000, while curved ones will cost between $10,000 and $15,000. Prices include state taxes, installation and a one year full warranty and unlimited warranty on the motor and drivetrain.
Looking for a short term option or a different type of lift? We also rent stair lifts by the month for only $295 per month.
Why does the stair lift cost so much?
While your normal $3,500 price tag may seem high for a new stair chair, consider your options. You could move to a one story home, but that would come with realtor costs, closing costs, moving costs and emotional stress of moving out of your neighborhood.
Or you could get a bulky platform lift installed. These take up lots of space and are only good for a few steps. Additionally, they cost upwards of $6,000.
Get Your Free In Home EstimateAnother option is to move to an assisted living facility. The average cost for these are $3,500 a month. Your last and least favorable option would be to move to a nursing home to the tune of $7,500 a month. So the cost of a stair chair seems insignificant to stay in the home you love and be comfortable.
Towson Medical prides itself on offering the best chair lift prices. We consider the Handicare stairlift to be the best, most reliable, affordable stairlift on the market and we offer it at the unbeatable, no haggle price of just $2199 plus tax and installation.

Contact Us TodayStraight vs Curved
It is rare that a stair lift cannot be fitted to a staircase, but some systems may have limitations that mean they are not suitable for your home. Which type of stairlift do you need?
Looking for a straight stair lift? If the staircase is straight, all we need a picture of the staircase and the number of stairs. Most straight units will go up to 15 stairs.
Stairlift installation is simple and takes about an hour or two. One of our qualified technicians will come to your home and oversee the process from start to finish.
For straight staircases the width of the stairs should be more than 29 inches to accommodate the passerby’s. Additionally a straight rail is suitable up to 15 stairs usually without problem. If you have less steps then we simply cut the rail to the precise length and cap it.
Some installations will require a folding rail so the rail does not stick out at the base of the stairs. Be sure to ask about our hinged rail option!
Our straight stair chair lift cost is the cheapest around at just $2099 plus installation and tax. There’s no need to search elsewhere for a more affordable chair lift.
Don’t consider getting a wheelchair ramp for outdoor steps. They are heavy and long in length. We can also install outdoor stair lifts, whatever the right stair lift is for you to make your life easier and give you peace of mind.
Getting Started with a Curved Stairlift
For curved staircases, you do not need to worry about surveying your staircase; Towson Medical Equipment Company, your authorized Handicare supplier, will do this for you. We will advise you of any adjustments required to fit your unit(such as moving a heater or other home appliance) and which is the best side of your staircase for you.
Towson Medical Equipment will analyze your curved staircase with our new 3D software in the comfort of your home. Our unique camera system precisely measures your stairs for all curves, bends, turns and landings to fabricate a custom curved stair lift for your stairs. These custom made units do take a few weeks to make, so be sure to place your order at least a month before you need the chair lift. Better yet, visit our showroom in Baltimore, MD for assistance with a demonstration. Take a demo stair lift for a ride in our store. We are happy to arrange an in-person demonstration or a free consultation in your home. Towson Medical also has the new stair climber wheelchair that doesn’t need any installation to the stairs.
If you need a wheelchair lift for stairs then this may be the best option for you.
How Are They Installed?
Our straight chair lifts are easily installed to the stairs attached directly to the stair itself. Several screws are needed to penetrate the floor to attach the rail system. If your unit is ever uninstalled the holes can easily be repaired as they are only 1/4 inch in diameter.
Whether you have wood or carpet stairs, the stairlift can be easily installed and removed.
How Fast does a Stair Chair Lift Go?
Stair lifts were designed not to go fast but to be safe for the users. A chair lift for stairs only goes about 0.34mph to ensure a comfortable ride.
How Long Does it Take to Install a Stairlift?
For straight stairs a typical install takes under 2 hours. Of course we give the homeowner a complete demo of the unit and make sure they are comfortable using it. For a custom curved stair chair, our install is more complicated and can take up to 6 hours.
Curved or Stairs With Landings
For staircases that bend or have landings or curve we recommend our
curved chair lifts. They are custom built using our 3D camera system to CAD CAM your new curved unit and ensure exact fitting on the day of install. These curved stair lifts usually take 4-8 hours to install as they require more setup and have more sophisticated parts.
Rest assured that our curved stairlift prices are the best in the business and we offer the best warranty too! A lifetime warranty on the motor and drivetrain.
Don’t Take Our Word for it!
Consumer Affairs ranks Handicare stair lifts Baltimore one of the best in the industry with 5 stars! Unfortunately, Acorn stairlift only gets one star. 🙁
