Serving Diabetic Patients Since 1989
Diabetic medical supplies must meet certain design and functional requirements to help patients with heel pain, arthritis, tendonitis and plantar fascitis. As the number of diabetic Americans has grown, however, more products have become available, which means more choices for consumers. Our current inventory of diabetic products includes:
- Diabetic Shoes: Specialized shoes for men and women provide comfort and quality, increase circulation and deliver a number of additional benefits for diabetic patients. Our products are capable of supporting individuals up to 500 lbs and higher, and they range from simple and functional shoes to casual and athletic footwear.
- Diabetic Socks: Our sock line comes in many fashionable shapes, sizes and colors and includes ankle, crew, no-show and over the calf socks. Socks help increase circulation with various amounts of pressure from the compression of the sock.
- Diabetic Shoe Inserts: Shoe inserts are designed to keep your feet healthy and happy – today and tomorrow! Additionally, Medicare will cover up to three per year.
- Diabetic Test Strips: Diabetic test strips are one of the largest categories of products we carry at Towson Medical Equipment. To provide for various diabetic monitors we carry and stock lots of brands of test strips.

Medicare and Diabetic Shoes
Since about 1993, Medicare Part B has provided partial reimbursement for extra-depth shoes and inserts for qualifying patients with diabetes. Medical experts agree that many amputations resulting from diabetes-related foot complications can be prevented by appropriate, properly fitting footwear. Medicare generally covers one pair of shoes and three inserts per patient per year. Many of our customers love the shoe line so much that they end up purchasing one or two more pairs out pocket. Besides, who can live with just one pair of shoes?
Prescription diabetic footwear, including socks and shoes, can help prevent more serious foot health complications that can arise as a result of diabetes. Medicare and supplemental insurance may reimburse for all or part of the cost of sock, shoes and prescription inserts for diabetics who meet certain general criteria. A qualified health professional can determine if you are eligible. If you suffer from diabetes or any foot health concerns, we strongly encourage you to see a foot health professional at Towson Medical Equipment to ensure all of your foot health needs are properly addressed.
